Intensifies checks on sweet shops, bakeries ahead of festive season
Kapurthala, September 20
Keeping in view of the upcoming festive season, the Food Safety Wing has intensified inspections of sweet shops and bakery units to ensure that safe, hygienic and quality food products are sold to the public.
During the drive, the inspection team comprised Assistant Commissioner (Food) Harjot Pal Singh and Food Safety Officer Mehak Saini checked five food business establishments in Phagwara, including three sweet shops and two bakery units. The team inspected cleanliness, food storage, raw materials and compliance with food safety standards. Team issues one challan after unhygienic conditions were found, while two improvement notices were also issued for deficiencies. The concerned Food Business Operators (FBOs) were directed to strictly follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Hygiene Practices (GHP) issued by Food Safety Wing.
The Wing ordered the food business operators to maintain proper cleanliness, use covered dustbins, avoid dumping waste in the open, use clean protective clothing and ensure that food items are properly covered. They were also directed to procure raw materials from reliable sources and maintain purchase bills and records. They were further advised to keep raw and prepared food separately, protect food from dust and insects, and use only permitted food colours and additives within prescribed limits. They were also directed to ensure valid FSSAI licences or registrations and display them prominently at their establishments.
The Food Safety Wing said that inspections would continue throughout the festive season and strict action would be taken against violations under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the rules and regulations framed thereunder.
Deputy Commissioner Akash Bansal appealed to food business operators to use quality raw materials and maintain proper hygiene while preparing and storing food items, so that safe and quality food is made available to the public.
