Today the protest of I K Gujral Punjab Technical University Teachers entered day 11. Teachers continued with the protest after no response from the university administration and Government of Punjab regarding the implementation of revised pay scales. Dr. Dinesh Gupta informed that 7th pay scale as per UGC which is to be implemented from 2016. The same pay scale has already been implemented for other state universities in Punjab and is only pending for the technical universities. He even informed that forget about the revised pay scale, even the increase in DA as per the pre-revised pay scales has not been granted to them. Considering the high inflation, it is next to impossible for them to even meet their day-to-day expenses. He also expressed deep frustration over non action by the administration in regard to genuine cases of promotion of faculty that are pending for years. He informed that no applications for promotion have been called by the administration for over 3 years whereas as per UGC norms each university should invite application twice a year. The decision on already processed cases is also pending for very long whereas as per the UGC directions the same must be resolved within 6 months. He also informed that the cases of counting of past service of around 20 teachers is pending for last 8-10 years which is unacceptable. In the end Dr. Dinesh Gupta informed that they have decided to approach honourable high court of Punjab and Haryana for resolving their issues.
