Farmers sensitised to harmful effects of stubble burning, encouraged to adopt scientific crop residue management practices
Kapurthala, October 29: Deputy Commissioner Akash Bansal and Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Toora on Thursday visited Lakhan Ke Padde and Miani Bhagupurian villages and interacted with farmers, urging them to work shoulder to shoulder with the district administration to prevent stubble burning and protect the environment.
Accompanied by officials of the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department, Cooperative Department and Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), the DC and SSP sensitised farmers about the harmful effects of burning paddy stubble and encouraged them to adopt scientific crop residue management practices.
During the interaction, they emphasised the need for collective efforts by farmers and government departments to tackle the problem of stubble burning. They highlighted that the adoption of environment-friendly methods of managing crop residue was essential for reducing air pollution, protecting public health and maintaining soil fertility.
They also urged farmers to make full use of the machinery and technical assistance available through government departments and cooperative institutions for the scientific management of paddy residue. They also stressed that active cooperation from the farming community was crucial to achieving the common goal of a cleaner environment.
They also reiterated its commitment to working closely with farmers and other stakeholders to prevent stubble burning and promote sustainable agricultural practices across the district.
On the occasion, Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Jaswinder Singh, DR co-operative societies Jagjit Singh, Agriculture Officer Satnam Singh, Agriculture Development Officer Gurjot Singh and others were also present.
