Under the banner of the District Legal Services Authority, Kapurthala, the Kapurthala Basketball Association successfully organized a “Punjab Against Drug Addiction” awareness campaign aimed at encouraging youth to embrace sports and adopt a drug-free lifestyle.
The campaign was led by Dr. Sunita Thakur, District Basketball Officer; Shri Satish Kumar, Retired Deputy Director Sports, Jalandhar; and Mr. Ashok Gupta, Vice President, Punjab Basketball Association. The dignitaries emphasized the collective responsibility of society in steering the youth towards constructive and healthy activities.
The event was graced by Sh. Ajmer Singh, former Captain of the Indian Basketball Team, as the Chief Guest. Addressing the young players, Ajmer Singh ji delivered an inspiring message, motivating them to choose sports as a path to a healthy lifestyle and strive to represent the nation with dedication and discipline. He highlighted that sports not only build physical strength but also instill character, commitment, and national pride.
Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Ashok Gupta stressed the vital role of sports in keeping the youth away from the menace of drugs. He underlined that regular participation in sports activities fosters a positive mindset, resilience, and a strong sense of purpose—factors that naturally distance individuals from harmful habits.
The campaign concluded with a pledge to continue spreading awareness against drug abuse and to promote sports as a powerful tool for shaping a healthier and brighter future for the youth of Punjab.
