98% Village Defence Committees active in Kapurthala, feedback being acted upon promptly

Deputy Commissioner Akash Bansal and Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Toora on Tuesday reviewed the progress of activities being carried out under the Punjab Government’s flagship anti-drug campaign, Yudh Nashian Virudh.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Varinder Pal Singh Bajwa, SP (Investigation) Harinder Singh Gill, all SDMs, Nasha Mukti Morcha Doaba Incharge Atin Agnihotri, District Coordinator Seema Rana, and other senior officials were present during the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner and SSP said that Yudh Nashian Virudh was an ambitious initiative of the Punjab Government aimed at completely eliminating the drug menace and transforming Punjab into a drug-free state. They said that the campaign was being implemented in a mission mode with the active participation of civil administration, police, village institutions, and community volunteers. They said that Kapurthala district had 691 villages, and nearly 98 percent of the Village Defence Committees were active at the ground and functioning effectively at the grassroots level. These committees were not only spreading awareness against drug abuse but were also closely monitoring suspicious activities, maintaining strong coordination with the district administration and police, and contributing significantly to uprooting the drug menace from villages and local communities.
The Deputy Commissioner and SSP further stated that timely action was being taken on the feedback received from the Village Defence Committees, and follow-up on every actionable input was being ensured through the concerned departments and police authorities. They added that special and continuous surveillance was being maintained on identified 24 drug hotspot areas, with senior officials personally monitoring the situation to ensure strict enforcement and preventive action. They directed all SDMs and police officers to further strengthen ground-level coordination, further intensify awareness campaigns among youth and families, and encourage public participation in reporting drug-related activities.
Reiterating the district administration’s commitment, the Deputy Commissioner and SSP said that Kapurthala would continue to adopt a zero-tolerance approach against drugs and make every possible effort to protect the younger generation and build a healthy, secure, and drug-free society. They appealed to one and all to become a part of the anti-drugs campaign of the government.
