Sant Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal chaired a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting to assess the progress of development projects and public welfare schemes in Kapurthala.
As Chairman and Co-Chairman, they stressed the importance of timely and high-quality completion of all initiatives, directing officials to personally oversee operations to ensure transparency and efficiency.
The MPs reviewed the health department’s performance, emphasizing the Punjab government’s priority to enhance healthcare services. They ordered the operationalization of an oxygen center in Kapurthala, an increase in dialysis machines at Kapurthala Civil Hospital, and the activation of the ICU at Sultanpur Lodhi Civil Hospital. To address the doctor shortage, they advised coordination with the state government. Additionally, they instructed officials to expedite the establishment of three new Aam Aadmi Clinics in Phagwara, Kapurthala, and Bhulath, while evaluating the performance of de-addiction centers and 15 Outpatient Opioid-Assisted Treatment (OTT) clinics.
In the agricultural sector, Dr. Chabbewal and Sant Seechewal highlighted Kapurthala’s selection for a Punjab government pilot project to promote rainfed maize cultivation on 1,500 acres. They also issued directives to implement direct seeding of paddy (DSR) across 2,000 hectares. The MPs reviewed Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) funds, noting that Dr. Chabbewal allocated funds for 11 projects (eight ongoing), while Sant Seechewal supported 73 projects (50 completed). Sant Seechewal specifically called for the swift completion of development works in his adopted village, Dalla.
The meeting also covered rural development, MGNREGA works, solid waste management, housing grants for the needy, and urban sanitation efforts. The MPs directed officials to ensure 100% utilization of MGNREGA funds in the current financial year and reviewed village pond cleaning and flood prevention measures, urging timely completion of anti-flood works. Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal assured effective implementation of all government schemes, with prominent attendees including Phagwara Mayor Rampal Upal, District Planning Board Chairperson Lalit Saklani, and other key officials.
