New Delhi, August 28, 2026

(Manmohan Singh)

Raksha Bandhan, festival symbolising the sacred bond of love, unwavering trust and deep affection between brothers and sisters, was celebrated across the national capital today here with great devotion, enthusiasm and joy. From homes to marketplaces, a festive spirit was clearly visible, as brothers and sisters renewed and strengthened their bonds of love, affection and mutual respect.

On this  occasion, sisters tied colourful rakhis on the wrists of their brothers and prayed for their long lives, good health, prosperity and happiness. This simple yet meaningful thread tied around the wrist reflects the profound love, trust and mutual respect that lie at the heart of the cherished bond between siblings.

Brothers reaffirmed their resolve to share in every happiness of their sisters and to stand by them as a steadfast source of support during every difficult moment. They expressed their commitment to always stand with their sisters for their dignity, safety and well-being. Families also exchanged sweets and gifts and extended warm greetings to one another on the festive occasion.

Raksha Bandhan is not merely a traditional ritual; it is a living symbol of love, trust, respect and togetherness. The festival strengthens the threads of familial relationships while fostering family unity, affection and a deeper sense of mutual belonging.

The sacred festival also conveys the profound message that strong families are the foundation of a strong society. Just as the loving thread of Raksha Bandhan strengthens the bond between siblings, stronger threads of respect, trust and fraternity in society can further promote harmony, goodwill and a spirit of unity.
