Sant Seechewal Holds Meeting with Officials to Review Preparations for Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 557th Prakash Purab

Issues of cleanliness, roads, traffic, facilities for devotees and cleanliness of the sacred Kali Bein raised

 

Sultanpur Lodhi, October 6: Environmentalist and Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal today held a meeting with officials of various concerned departments to review preparations for the 557th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The meeting was chaired by Rajya Sabha MP Sant Seechewal and SDM Sultanpur Lodhi Jasjit Singh. During the meeting, important issues related to the city, the sacred Kali Bein and the boat competitions being organised under the ‘Khedan Vatan Punjab Diyan’ programme were discussed.

 

Sant Seechewal said that lakhs of devotees from across the country and abroad visit Sultanpur Lodhi on the occasion of Prakash Purab. Therefore, proper arrangements for cleanliness, security, traffic management, drinking water, accommodation and other basic facilities should be completed well in advance.

 

He directed the authorities to immediately repair the roads in poor condition in the city, particularly the main road leading to Gurdwara Sri Ber Sahib. He also called for ensuring 100 per cent cleanliness in the city, reopening closed public toilets, installing temporary toilets and dustbins, and repairing non-functional streetlights.

 

The long-pending work of installing CCTV cameras under the Smart City project should be completed immediately, while police patrolling and vigilance should be increased at sensitive locations. He also called for providing free e-vehicle services from parking areas to the Gurdwara Sahib for elderly people, children and devotees with disabilities.

 

Regarding the sanctity and cleanliness of the sacred Kali Bein, Sant Seechewal specifically directed that the discharge of dirty water through rainwater pipes into the Bein be stopped immediately. He also called for preventing the spread of waste along the banks of the Bein due to the Dana Mandi.

 

To ensure smooth traffic movement during the Prakash Purab celebrations, directions were issued to repair the pontoon bridges constructed on both the upstream and downstream sides of the sacred Bein. Similarly, the damaged welcome and direction-sign boards at the entrance to the city from Lohian Road should be replaced immediately.

 

During the meeting, SDM Jasjit Singh directed officials of all concerned departments to immediately start all works related to the Prakash Purab on a priority basis and complete them within the stipulated time. He said that every department should set a clear deadline for the work assigned to it and ensure action accordingly. He also directed the officials to work in close coordination and ensure that all necessary arrangements are completed before the Prakash Purab.

 

Those present at the meeting included Kamaljit Singh Executive Officer; BDPO Gurmeet Singh; Kulwinder Singh District Sports Officer; Vivek Vishisht Sub-Divisional Engineer PWD; Navkirat Singh; Balbir Singh from Punjab Road Transport; Jaswinder Singh SDO Power Board; Ghanshyam Sanitary Inspector; Karnail Singh Inspector, Food Supply Department; JE Jatinder Pal Singh; Deepak Khurana; Manjinder Singh from the Forest Department; Khushwinder Singh SDO Drainage Department; and officials from various other departments. MC Gurwinder Kaur, Sant Sukhjit Singh and Gurdev Singh Fauji were also present.
