Rs 1.09 crore to be spent on street light material and manpower, Five electricians and 12 helpers to be deployed for 18 months

In a major decision to ensuring timely repairs and improving the functioning of street lights in all 50 wards under its jurisdiction, the Municipal Corporation Kapurthala has initiated the process of undertaking the maintenance of street lights across the city on its own.
As part of the initiative, the Municipal Corporation will procure street light maintenance material worth approximately Rs 45 lakh. The material includes cables, poles, LED lights, light drivers and MCPCBs, besides other key items required for the repair and maintenance of street lights. In addition, the civic body will spend approximately Rs 64 lakh on manpower for street light maintenance. Under the arrangement, five electricians and 12 helpers will be engaged for a period of one and a half years to undertake repair and maintenance work across the city, ensure the functioning of street lights and address complaints received from residents.
Deputy Commissioner Akash Bansal said that the district administration was committed to ensuring better basic amenities and responsive public services for the residents. He said that effective functioning of street lights was essential for public safety and convenience, especially in residential areas and on roads used during night hours.
Divulging further details, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Anupam Kaler said that the contract of the previous agency had already been cancelled and a formal termination notice had also been issued to the company. She said that effective maintenance of street lights was an important priority of the Municipal Corporation to ensure better civic services to residents. She said thay a proper mechanism would also be put in place to ensure that maintenance-related complaints addressed promptly and faulty street lights repaired without unnecessary delay.
