MP Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal announces permanent closure of Urban Estate secondary garbage point
Three door-to-door collection vehicles deployed to strengthen waste management
Phagwara, September 18: Giving further impetus to the Punjab Government’s Mission Clean Punjab, Member Parliament Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal on Friday announced the permanent closure of the secondary garbage collection point at Urban Estate, Phagwara, with a view to providing cleaner and healthier surroundings to the residents.
Mayor Rampal Uppal, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Randeep Singh Heer and officials of the Municipal Corporation Phagwara were also present on the occasion.
Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal said that with the closure of the secondary garbage point, no garbage would now be dumped at the site from Friday onwards. He said that the decision was aimed at eliminating an existing source of inconvenience for residents and further improving sanitation and cleanliness in the Urban Estate area. He said that the Municipal Corporation had also deployed three door-to-door garbage collection vehicles to ensure that waste generated by households was collected regularly and transported through the proper waste management system.
Dr Chabbewal said that the Punjab Government was giving priority to cleanliness, sanitation and better civic amenities, and Mission Clean Punjab was being implemented with a focus on improving cleanliness at the grassroots level. He said that effective waste collection and scientific management of solid waste were essential for creating clean and healthy urban spaces. He also appealed to residents to extend their cooperation to the Municipal Corporation by handing over household waste to the door-to-door collection vehicles and refraining from dumping garbage at public places.
The MP said that collective participation of citizens, Municipal Corporation officials and other stakeholders would help make Phagwara cleaner, greener and more livable.
