Claims and objections can be filed till September 12, final electoral rolls to be published on October 12
Kapurthala, August 14
Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Akash Bansal on Friday handed over the draft electoral rolls of Kapurthala district to representatives of various political parties, following the completion of the first phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
As per the draft electoral rolls published after the house-to-house verification conducted under the SIR exercise, the district now has 536304 electors, comprising 281516 male and 254765 female voters. The draft rolls have been prepared on the basis of the enumeration forms collected and digitised during the intensive verification exercise.
Interacting with representatives of political parties, the Deputy Commissioner said that 48310 electors have remained unmapped during the SIR process. Notices will be issued to these electors, giving them the opportunity to submit the required documents and establish their eligibility during the claims and objections period, which will continue till September 12. He said that the claims and objections received during this period would be examined as per the prescribed procedure. Electors whose cases require verification would be given an opportunity to provide the necessary documents and information. If an unmapped elector fails to submit the required documents within the stipulated period, his or her name may not be included in the final electoral roll.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that the claims and objections period would provide an important opportunity to eligible citizens to check their names and particulars in the draft electoral rolls and approach the designated authorities in case of any discrepancy. He urged political parties to actively inform voters about the process so that no eligible elector is deprived of an opportunity to get his or her name included in the electoral roll. He said that the entire SIR exercise was being carried out in accordance with the directions of the Election Commission of India, with an emphasis on accuracy, transparency and verification of electoral records. The administration would ensure that all claims and objections are dealt with fairly and within the prescribed timeline.
The Deputy Commissioner further informed that, after disposal of claims and objections and completion of the prescribed verification process, the final electoral rolls of the district would be published on October 12, 2026. He appealed to voters to carefully check their names and other particulars in the draft electoral rolls and submit claims or objections, wherever required, within the stipulated period. He also urged political party representatives and Booth Level Agents to extend cooperation to the election authorities in ensuring that the electoral rolls are accurate, updated and inclusive.
Officials of the Election department and representatives of political parties were also present on the occasion.
