DC and MC Commissioner inspect proposed site, Centre to control stray dog population

With an aim to effectively tackle the issue of stray dog population while ensuring public safety and animal welfare, the district administration has initiated steps to establish an Animal Birth Control (ABC) Centre in Kapurthala.
Deputy Commissioner Akash Bansal, along with Municipal Corporation Commissioner Anupam Kaler and other concerned officials inspected a piece of land in the premises of the Animal Husbandry Department to assess its suitability for setting up the proposed Animal Birth Control Centre.
Reviewing the available space, the Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned department to complete all necessary formalities, including revenue records of the site, at the earliest so that the project could be taken forward without delay.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the establishment of an Animal Birth Control Centre in Kapurthala would prove to be a significant step towards addressing the issue of stray dog population in a scientific, systematic and humane manner. He said that the centre would facilitate sterilization and anti-rabies vaccination of stray dogs in accordance with the Animal Birth Control Rules, thereby helping to stabilize the stray dog population and minimize the risk of dog bite incidents and rabies.
Deputy Commissioner further said that while an Animal Birth Control Centre is already functioning in Phagwara, which falls under Kapurthala district, a dedicated facility in Kapurthala city has become essential in view of the increasing requirement for sterilization and vaccination services. The proposed centre will ensure quicker response, better coverage and improved implementation of stray dog management measures across the district.
Deputy Commissioner also said that the proposed Animal Birth Control Centre would further strengthen the district’s efforts in effective stray dog management while ensuring compliance with the prescribed norms and animal welfare guidelines.
