Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal on Thursday directed the District Task Force for the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme to step up awareness activities throughout the district, ensuring that no eligible girls are left out of the benefits provided by social welfare schemes.

During a meeting held today, Panchal emphasized that the schemes aim to create behavioural and social change in the perception of the girl child in the country. This will be achieved by informing, influencing, motivating, engaging, and empowering all stakeholders. He urged the Social Security, Police, Education, and Health Departments to collaborate in developing innovative policies to ensure that girls in schools are informed about the welfare policies of both the Punjab government and the Union government.

Panchal noted that the district has received funding of Rs. 17.58 lakh to be utilized this fiscal year for various activities, including the celebration of “Dhian Di Lorhi” in all five blocks and providing self-defense training for girls.  He also instructed health department officials to maintain institutional delivery rates of 95% or higher.

Present at the meeting were task force members including SDM Aprna, Civil Surgeon Dr. Richa Bhatia, DPRO Subeg Singh, and DPO Rajiv Dhandha, among others.
